Meeting the career teacher requirements
The ISEA's Career Development, Performance Review, and Intensive Assistance for Career Teachers provides a model for teacher individual career development plans, the summative evaluations for veteran teachers called performance reviews, and an intensive assistance process called for in the Teacher Quality Law.
This model provides a design that meets the requirements of Iowa law and can be meaningful and valuable for both teachers and evaluators. The document includes relevant excerpts from Iowa statute; guiding principles of the model; then detailed models for individual career development plans, performance reviews, and intensive assistance; suggestions for implementing the process; and an appendix of information and forms.
The model was created by a team of ISEA staff and input into the model was provided by a variety of sources including ISEA members and staff, practicing administrators, Iowa Department of Education staff, leaders from School Administrators of Iowa and others. Three nationally-recognized experts provided input also - Charlotte Danielson, Dr. Tom McGreal, and Dr. Beverly Showers.
