Teaching Iowa history CD now available

The ISEA has produced and is distributing a new approach to teaching Iowa History. Shining Stars and Everyday Heroes is a two-CD kit developed by Randy Lyon, a long-time member and Association leader from Dubuque. This innovative teaching tool is student-focused and is designed to foster a passion for history based on the individual student's interests. Included are:

• A thematic group of units which can be used in any order
• A one-of-a-kind CD encyclopedia of Iowa history containing nearly 6,000 entries and almost 2,000 photographs
• Lesson plans for daily oral language skill practice using Iowa history
• Lesson plans for using Iowa history to teach graphing, map reading, use of reference tools
• Lesson plans that develop writing skills
• Lesson plans that develop interest and appreciation of the architectural heritage present in our Iowa communities
• Daily historical event calendars from Iowa and the United States
• A deck of card and a game similar to "Fish" to introduce 25 figures from Iowa history
