Reading Improvement Through Implementation of MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support)

This 1-credit, 4-week course is entirely self-paced and can be taken anytime between February 20, 2026 - August 20, 2026.

At a Glance

Dr. Stephanie Stollar and Dr. Sara Brown have given us some practical tips and tools to assess our current reality and look to improve in their book, MTSS for Reading Improvement: A Leader’s Tool Kit for Schoolwide Success. This book is a comprehensive overview of the systems and support needed to ensure each and every student receives what they need to succeed. Multi-Tiered Systems of Support are not only needed for reading improvement, which is the focus of this book, but are also needed for all academic and behavioral areas. The basic tenants remain the same, the tools may change based on the content area. Consequently, many of the ideas and tools presented in this book are usable across the academic and behavioral domains in a school or district. During this course, we will take a look at how an effective MTSS can be built and will use the tools provided to analyze current systems. An action and/or implementation plan will be developed based on the analysis of the current reality of the system. Participants will be expected to use tools from the book to help their own or their schools' practices.
