The ISEA PAC recommendation is the result of a deliberate process. The committee—composed of an equal number of Republican and Democratic members—extended invitations to all candidates for Governor to participate in interviews. The evaluation was based specifically on candidates’ responses to key issues, including:
- Sustainable and equitable funding for Iowa’s public schools.
- The protection of professional rights and standards for educators.
- Ensuring every Iowa student has access to a safe and thriving learning environment.
ISEA President Joshua Brown emphasized that this recommendation is a testament to the expertise of Iowa educators who lead the PAC process.
“Iowa educators are the experts in their classrooms and understand better than anyone what our students need to succeed,” said ISEA President Joshua Brown. “Our PAC committee, representing a broad spectrum of political viewpoints, followed a thorough process to determine which candidate best aligns with the values of public education. Rob Sand has demonstrated a clear understanding of the challenges facing our schools and a genuine commitment to supporting the professionals who work in them every day.”
In recommending Sand, the committee highlighted his record of transparency, his focus on collaborative solutions, and his unwavering support of Iowa’s public schools, students, and education professionals. The ISEA believes that his approach to governance will prioritize the needs of local school districts and ensure that Iowa remains a leader in educational excellence.
“As the son of a 20-year ISEA member and a proud product of Iowa public schools, I’m honored to earn the support of the ISEA and teachers across our state. ‘Foundation in Education’ is stamped on our state’s quarters, yet the past decade of one-party control has left that foundation broken. Our public-school teachers deserve a governor who will have their backs, not make their jobs harder, and our kids deserve a governor who will prioritize our public schools over an unaccountable, wasteful voucher program. As governor, I’ll work to fully fund our public schools, stand up for our teachers, and fight for our students — because that’s how we restore Iowa’s public schools as our state’s crown jewel again,” said Rob Sand.
“We are proud to support a candidate who listens to the voices of educators and values the essential role public schools play in our communities,” Brown added. “This recommendation is about putting Iowa’s children and their future first.”
